  • General Information
    • To reserve items from the Library of Things, please call Customer Service 801.943.4636 or stop by your local branch and talk with a librarian
    • 7-day checkout period (Chromebooks, Hotspots and blood pressure monitors 21 days)
    • Materials need to be returned to the library by the close of business on the day they are due. After that, late fees will be assessed every day of the week (Monday-Sunday), until the item is returned
    • Limit of 5 items per card
    • Only adults with a library account in good standing may checkout these items
    • All items listed are renewable—subject to hold lists
    • Items must be checked out and returned at the same branch
    • Items can be placed on hold at any County Library location

One blood pressure monitor per library card

The County Library is lending a limited number of Blood Pressure Monitors in order to improve health outcomes in our communities, and in partnership with the SLCO Health department, as high blood pressure is one of the major health disparities in the valley.

The Library System is offering the monitors as a courtesy. Staff do not give medical advice to patrons. Reserve a blood-pressure monitor today.

Equipment and all peripheral materials (cords, case, etc.) must be returned together in the condition in which they were checked out and on the same day the monitor is returned.

Troubleshooting the device:

  1. Power off (wait 15 minutes) and then restart the device
  2. Check or replace the batteries
  3. Charge the device
  4. Try a different charging cord if the device is not charging when plugged in
  5. Power off then restart the device
  6. If necessary, contact the County Library for further help

The County Library is lending a limited number of Chromebooks. Chromebooks are laptops that run on Google's Chrome operating system. If you have WiFi, you can use a Chromebook to easily access the web, use Gmail and YouTube, or create documents and spreadsheets using Google Docs.

  • Chromebooks are located at all branches for check out, subject to availability
  • Only one Chromebook per library card
  • 21-day checkout period
  • Equipment and all peripheral materials (charging cord, carrying case, gel case, etc.) must be returned together in the condition in which they were checked out and on the same day the Chromebook is returned

Special Care

  • Pasta Kit should not be rinsed/submerged in water or placed in the dishwasher. It can rust the machine.
  • To clean, use a brush and a clean towel. In case of squeaking, insert a few drops of Vaseline oil suitable for food contact at the ends of the rollers.
  • More instructions are on the instruction cards in the kit.

Rugged, compact, and easy to use, GoPros provide amazing images and videos, and they’re free for checkout with your County Library card. Includes selfie stick, tripod, floating grip, helmet and head straps, attachment hardware, and case.

A SD card is required, but not included. Patrons will need to supply their own memory device.

Checkout Information:

  1. Equipment and all peripheral materials (cords, case, etc.) must be returned together in the condition in which they were checked out and on the same day in which the device is returned.
  2. GoPro cameras do not automatically renew. Patrons must contact the library to renew if available.
  3. No self-checkout.
  4. The daily overdue fine is $1.00 per day, $15.00 max.

The County Library | Salt Lake is lending a limited number of HappyLight Therapy Lamps. According to the Health Department, 4 out of the top 10 health concerns for the community have to do with mental health. Offering lights to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder is a great service to patrons by allowing them to checkout and test the lamps before purchasing their own.

Checkout Information:

  • HappyLights must be returned to the library where it was checked out.
  • Equipment and all peripheral materials must be returned together in the condition in which they were checked out and on the same day in which the device is returned.
  • No self-checkout.
  • The daily overdue fine is $1.00 per day, $15.00 max.

Tips:

  • Do not look directly in to the lamp.
  • Position lamp as close as 6 inches but within 24 inches of your face.
  • The light from lamp must be directed at your eyes; therefore, your eyes must be open to achieve full benefit.
  • Use 20 mins. to 1 hour a day.
  • For best results, it is recommended that you use the lamp regularly and about the same time each day.
  • While using the lamp (oriented toward the light), feel free to engage in activities such as reading, writing, sewing, working on the computer, and other hobbies.

The County Library is lending a limited number of hotspot devices. Portable hotspots provide free, unlimited high-speed internet access from almost anywhere when using a WiFi-enabled device such as a phone, tablet, or laptop.

  • Equipment and all peripheral materials (sim card, cords, adapters, plug-ins, etc.) must be returned together in the condition in which they were checked out and on the same day the Hotspot is returned
  • Hotspot service will be automatically disabled on any overdue devices more than one day overdue; and disabled devices will NOT broadcast a WiFi signal
  • Hotspots have a range of 35-40 feet, battery life of 3–4 hours, and charging takes 1–2 hours
  • The County Library Service is dependent on the strength of the carrier’s signal, so there may be some locations where these devices will not be able to broadcast WiFi—Signal Strength may vary.
  • Like other County internet services, hotspots are filtered for content and bandwidth usage
  • Hotspots will work in all 50 states as long as there is service in that area
  • Hotspots will NOT work for international signals
  • Up to 10 devices can be connected to a hotspot at the same time

  1. Charge the device
  2. Try a different charging cord if the device is not charging when plugged in
  3. Power off then restart the device
  4. If necessary, contact the number on the hotspot case

Take a closer look at the bug you nearly stepped on. Identify nearby vegetation and wildlife. These Kids Nature Kits, made possible by a grant from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the Disney Conservation Fund and provided by Utah's Hogle Zoo, contain everything kids need to explore the great outdoors in their own backyards and beyond. Summer Backpacks contain binoculars, bug viewers, butterfly nets, clip-on camera lenses, common species ID cards, and information on the Jordan River ecosystem. Winter Backpacks contain snow activities, snowman kits, snowball makers, guide to the stars, magnifying glasses, and books to connect with the winter weather.

  • These kits are best for children and families
  • A smartphone may be helpful
  • Seven-day checkout period
  • All contents of the kit must be returned together in the condition in which they were checked out and on the same day in which the Kids Nature Kit is returned
  • Overdue fines and fees for missing parts may occur if returned late or partially returned

Provides families with fun books and materials to create their own awesome storytimes at home! Kits include three books, activity sheets, and one or two toys.

  • All contents of the kit (books, toys, cards, accessories, etc.) must be returned together in the condition in which they were checked out and on the same day in which the Storytime to Go Kit is returned
  • The kits are cleaned after every checkout
  • Each kit comes with a list and pictures of all items included in the kit for easy return
  • Each library has a total of 20 backpacks: 10 designed for the babies and toddlers and 10 for pre-k children
